GST Registration
Should You Register for GST Voluntarily?

Quick Answer
If you're below the threshold but want to claim input tax credit, sell to businesses that expect GST invoices, or plan to cross the threshold within the year anyway, voluntary registration is often worth doing early rather than waiting to be forced into it.
Nothing stops a business below the threshold from registering anyway, and there are real reasons to. The biggest is input tax credit — without a GSTIN, GST you pay on business purchases (equipment, inventory, services) is just a cost, not a credit against what you owe.
The second reason is credibility with B2B customers. Many businesses simply won't buy from an unregistered vendor because they can't claim ITC on the purchase — registering voluntarily can open doors that stay closed otherwise.
The tradeoff is the same one everyone faces once registered: monthly filing becomes mandatory the moment you have a GSTIN, threshold or not. If your transaction volume is genuinely tiny, that overhead may not be worth the ITC benefit yet — but if you're within a few months of crossing the threshold organically, registering now instead of later avoids a scramble.
